These easy everything bagels are the perfect low-calorie, high-protein, meal-prep bagel and you can customize to suit your taste. Leave them plain, add everything bagel seasonings or cinnamon brown sugar. I don’t know about you, but the bagel prices these days are ridiculous. I was in the grocery store, and I told myself you should just make your own. I already had the ingredients at home so that’s what I did and since these I have made another batch that is almost gone today.
These bagels are so fluffy and require no yeast or boiling like your typical bagel! You only need three main ingredients, and you have yourself a delicious homemade bagel. They taste great toasted with cream cheese, butter, or peanut butter! Additionally, they also make an amazing breakfast sandwich.
The reason these bagels are so easy to make is that they require Greek yogurt which is the leaving agent in this recipe! This also means more protein and fewer calories!
Ingredients for the easy everything bagels:
1 cup self-rising flour or unbleached all-purpose flour with 2 teaspoons baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup non-fat Greek yogurt
3 tbsp liquid egg whites or use an egg whipped up
Toppings: Everything bagel seasoning
Toppings for cinnamon and sugar:
1 tsp of ground cinnamon, brown sugar and regular granulated sugar.
How do you make the bagels?
Preheat oven to 375F. Line with cooking spray and parchment paper
In a bowl combine the flour, baking powder salt, and whisk.
Add the yogurt and mix with a fork until well combined.
Lightly dust flour on a clean surface.
Knead the dough for about 60 seconds or 15 turns (it will be a little sticky but should not stick to your hand)
Divide into 4 equal balls and roll each ball into ropes. Join the ends to form bagels and use water to seal the ends together.
Brush the bagels with the egg whites and sprinkle both sides with everything but the bagel seasoning or seasoning of choice.
Bake for 25 minutes.
Allow to cool, slice, and make a yummy breakfast sandwich, or top with cream cheese or peanut butter!! I highly recommend this seasonal pumpkin pie spice butter below. SOOOO GOOD!!!
Bagel Fun Fact:
The word Bagel comes from the German word “bougel,” meaning “bracelet,” and by way of the Yiddish “beygl” which means “ring.” So while innovative bakers can let their imaginations run wild when it comes to flavors, the shape isn’t negotiable. If it is not in the shape of a ring or bracelet, it is NOT a bagel.
I guess I need to work on making my holes bigger.
